After an oil painting by John Constable. Possibly by Frederick Waters Watts (1800-1862), a close follower of Constable. The title 'A Country Road' was how the work was recorded in George Powell's inventory. The opinion of Dr. Charles Rhyne at the Yale Centre of British Art was sought in 1980. He concluded that this painting ''is definitely not by Constable and is very likely by F. W. Watts, quite a competent follower of Constable''
