One of six works by the artist commissioned by the Welsh Arts Council for the exhibition 'The Fall' which opened at the Oriel in April 1976 and toured to Bangor Art Gallery, the Museum and Art Gallery, Newport and the Glynn Vivian Museum and Art Gallery, Swansea. The artists commissioned for 'The Fall' - Mervyn Baldwin, Paul Bowen, Ian Grainger, Will Lorimer, Chris Orr and Gwyn Watkins - were challenged to provide a series of illustrations to specific biblical passages relating to the story of Adam and Eve
The Fall No.4.
A woman / Eve holding a bunch of faded flowers stands in front of a man / Adam, seen from behind, both preparing to leave the Garden of Eden. Eve stands on and points downwards to the snake / serpent who was guilty of tempting her, and Adam points to Eve. To the right a caterpillar amongst the few flowers that are yet to fade beside the artist signature?. Black out line drawing coloured with very subtle blue and red tones, the dark thinner strip of sky from ‘The Fall No.3’ has expanded further down the image and more of the top right corner has been removed to create an irregular shaped composition.
