Display artist/maker:

Trevor Corser

Born: 1938, UK, England, Greater Manchester, Oldham    Died: 2015

Ceramicist. After a period of national service with the Household Cavalry, Corser hitchhiked to St Ives, Cornwall from his native Oldham and began work for Bernard Leach at the Leach Pottery in 1966, packing pots for transit and mixing clay. He soon became an apprentice of Leach, learning the skilled craft of production pottery.

After Leach’s death in 1979, Corser ran the pottery with Leach’s widow Janet. After her death in 1997, Corser ran the pottery with another apprentice, Joanna Watson until the pottery’s closure for refurbishment in 2005. Throughout his career Corser remained loyal to the Leach tradition producing wheel-thrown functional stoneware. While his profile was not as high as earlier Leach apprentices, he is a significant British potter in his own right.
