Paul Hawdon

Born: 1953

Painter and printmaker. Worked as a sound archives assistant and studio manager for the BBC, 1972-78, before studying at St Martin's School of Art, 1978-82, and the Royal Academy, 1982-85. An Italian government scholarship allowed him to work in Rome, 1985-86, where he later returned, as winner of the Prix de Rome for Printmaking, to study at the British School at Rome, 1988-89. He taught printmaking at Mid Warwickshire College, 1991-93, but now lives and works in Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and a Member of the Printmakers' Council. In recent years he has produced a number of large etchings which investigate the power of nature and mankind, often evoking a sense of apocalypse
