Bernardino di Betto Pinturicchio

Born: c.1454, Italy, Perugia   Died: 1513, Siena

Renaissance painter. Possibly a pupil of Bartolomeo Caporali (c.1420-1505). He assisted Perugino with the Sistine Chapel frescoes, 1481-82, and later won a commission to paint the residency of Pope Alexander VI in 1492. His highly colourful work is best known in his 'Scenes from the Life of Aeneas Sylvius Piccolomini' in the Piccolomini Library in Siena Cathedral
