Claude Duflos

Born: 1665, France, Coucy-le-Chateau   Died: 1727, France

Engraver. Duflos is believed to have studied under Sebastien Leclerc (1637-1714) as he engraved a portrait of him. He made prints after many contemporary painters, producing over three hundred works. About a third of these are portraits, which include 'Louis XV' (1710) and the 'Marquis d'Argenson' (1711), both after Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659-1743). His sons Claude-Augustin Duflos (1700-1786), Simon-Nicolas Duflos (1701-1752), Philothee-Francois Duflos (1710-1746), his grandson Pierre Duflos (1742-1816) and his grandson's wife Marie-Elisabeth Thibault (fl 1780-98) were all etchers or painters
