James Sargant Storer

Engraver and draughtsman. Son of a watch- and clockmaker. Storer specialised in topographical and architectural images; he drew and engraved the plates himself. He worked with artist John Greig (active 1803-53) until about 1814, publishing e. g. ‘Cowper Illustrated by a Series of Views’ (1803) and with his son Henry Sargent Storer (1796-1837). With the latter, he produced works such as ‘The Cathedrals of Great Britain’ (1814-19), ‘Views of Edinburgh and its Vicinity’ (1820) and ‘The Portfolio: a Collection of Engravings from Antiquarian, Architectural and Topographical Subjects’ (1823-4). His work was known for the accuracy and beauty of finish.
