Alfred Henry Forrester Crowquill

Illustrator and writer. Son of a public notary. Began his career in journalism, but later worked on children’s books, verse and comic sketches which featured in various magazines including Punch and The Illustrated London News. His given name was Alfred Henry Forrester, but he used the pseudonym Alfred Crowquill until 1843. He often collaborated with his brother Charles who also used the same pseudonym. Many of his illustrations are caricatures of anthropomorphic animals and often feature a short accompanying verse
