Briton Rivière

Born: 1840, UK, England, London   Died: 1920

RA. Painter and illustrator. Son of art teacher William Rivière (1806–1876) under whom he trained, and nephew of watercolourist Henry Parsons Rivière (1811–1888). Studied at Cheltenham College and Oxford University. Early in his career, Rivière made his name illustrating for Punch. He is most well-known, however, for his wide range of animal paintings which were immensely popular with the Victorian public.
