Anthony Dyson

Printmaker. Anthony Dyson PhD RE studied art at Blackburn School of Art before graduating as a teacher at Leeds College of Art. He then earned a Doctorate in History of Art at Courtauld Institute, University of London. His writing has been published widely in the International Journal of Art and Design Education, along with the journal Printmaking Quarterly and in the 1991 book Teaching the Humanities. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. He worked as a full time Art and Art History teacher, ultimately a Senior Lecture in the University of London Institute of Education, until 1987, when he left to pursue work as a master printer. He produced editions of portfolios for artists the likes of Robin Tanner and Edgar Holloway, and printed historically engraved plates for respected establishments such as the Tate Gallery and Harvard University. His prints are held in private and public collections in Britain and abroad, notably the British Museum, London, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the Leonardo Sciascia Print Foundation in Italy, and the Harvard Theatre Collection, USA. His work has also been featured in numerous exhibitions, both group and solo. He received a Fenton Arts Trust Award in 2010, the same year he was awarded a prize for his etching ‘Borough Market’, which was shown at a national themed exhibition pertaining to the city of London.
