Gerald Philip Mynott

Born: 1957, UK, England, London

Painter, calligrapher and printmaker. Son of artists Gerald and Patricia Mynott and brother of artists Lawrence and Katherine Mynott. Studied heraldry, calligraphy and illumination at Reigate College of Art and Design, graduating with the highest marks ever recorded. He worked for three years as a Herald Painter at the College of Arms before going on to study at Künstlerhaus, Vienna in 1979. His first one-person exhibition was held at Francis Kyle Gallery in 1980, titled A View of Vienna. He received the Lloyds Print-Making Award in 1989. Before 1990 he worked primarily in mixed media, but has since been painting mostly in oil with occasional use of pastel and lithography. Mynott has held many solo exhibitions of his work, which largely feature artistic recording of his travels around the great cities of Europe and beyond, with particular focus on the architecture. He has also exhibited twice in New York and once in Hong Kong. He has worked for the BBC as well as the Victoria & Albert Museum, and much of his work is now held in the Tate Gallery, London.
