Derek George Mynott

Born: 1926, UK, England, London   Died: 1994

Painter. Husband of artist Patricia Mynott and father of artists Lawrence, Gerald and Katherine Mynott. He became a student at High-Wycombe School of Art at the age of 13, and moved on to study at the Slade School in 1945 after a stint serving in the Queen’s Royal Regiment. While at the Slade he worked under the direction of Professor Randolph Schwabe, who was a pupil of Degas. Mynott was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) at age 26, and his first one-man exhibition was held at the RBA the following year. He continued to exhibit widely in both England and abroad, working predominantly in oil, pastel and watercolour, as well as producing many lithographs that were published by Royal Academy Graphics. His notable commissions included a large oil painting of the Thames for Biwater Shellabear in 1983, and a triptych of Greenwich for Mac Brook. He became a member of the New English Art Club in 1982, and in 1988 he was made a painting member of the Painter Stainers of the City Livery Co. London.
