Robert Sargent Austin

Born: 1895, UK, England, Leicester   Died: 1973

Printmaker. Studied at the Royal College of Art under Frank Short (1857-1945). He won the Prix de Rome in 1922 which enabled him to study at the British School at Rome, 1922-25. He later taught as Professor of Engraving at the Royal College of Art. He produced detailed etchings, engravings and lithographs of human subjects with particular interest in the female figure. A study of his work - 'A Catalogue of Etchings & Engravings by Robert Austin, R.E.: 1913-1929' by the print collector Campbell Dodgson - was published as early as 1930. His brother Frederick Austin (1902-1990) was also an artist
