Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat

Born: 1844, France, Haute-Vienne, Limoges   Died: 1910

Ceramicist. Dalpayrat trained as a faience painter, working in local factories before moving close to Paris in 1889. He began working in stoneware and produced a vast range of shapes and decorations. He developed an oxblood flambé glaze which became known as ‘Rouge Dalpayrat’ in 1892. He decorated pieces in the form of gourds, fruits, and shapes derived from Japanese bottles with the glaze dappled or veined with greens, blues and yellows.
