Joseph Edwards

Born: 1814, UK, Wales, Merthyr Tydfil   Died: 1882

Joseph Edwards was born 5th March 1814, the son of James Edwards, a stone-cutter. In 1835 he was employed in London by William Behnes and in 1837 Edwards was admitted to the Royal Academy of Arts. Throughout his career he undertook commissions for many members of the leading South Wales families, including the Beaufort, Guest, Raglan, and Crawshay families. Over forty years Edwards exhibited seventy of his works at Royal Academy exhibitions. He died 9th January 1882, and was buried in Highgate cemetery.
