Claude Allin Shepperson

Born: 1867, UK, England, Kent, Beckenham   Died: 1921

Illustrator and printmaker. After initially studying law he switched to art in 1891 studying in Paris and at Heatherley's School of Fine Art in London. He later received instruction from Sir Frank Short (1857-1945). He principally worked as an illustrator contributing regularly to 'Strand', 'Punch' and 'Sphere' as well as numerous books, particularly childrens' books. He also produced 29 drypoints and 21 lithographs over a period of 15 years some of the latter including the set 'Tending the Wounded' - images of the nursing care provided for wounded First World War soldiers
