André Dunoyer de Segonzac

Born: 1884, France, Seine-et-Oise, Boussy-St-Antoine   Died: 1974, Paris

Painter, printmaker and designer. He studied in numerous Paris academies between 1900 and 1907 (with the exception of military service 1902-03) including a spell in the studio of the academic painter Jean-Paul Laurens (1838-1921). During the First World War he served in the Camouflage Unit. His early work was cubist whilst his later work consisted of still lifes and naturalistic landscapes of St Tropez, where he was partly based after 1908. He also produced etchings for illustrations to numerous books including Colette's 'La Treille Muscate'. He won the main painting prize at the 1934 Venice Biennale
