Display artist/maker:

Glynn Boyd-Harte

Born: 1948, UK, England, Lancashire, Rochdale   Died: 2003

Painter, illustrator and printmaker. Son of a commercial artist. Studied at Rochdale School of Art and St Martin's before specialising in illustration at the Royal College of Art. He graduated from the latter in 1973. He became a popular figure in the literary and artistic scene of 1970s London and consequently produced portraits of Tom Stoppard, Brian Eno and even the elderly Duncan Grant. A number of publishing ventures followed including 'Weekend In Dieppe' (1981) and 'Temples of Power: Architecture of Electricity in London' (1982, edited by Gavin Stamp, Cygnet Press) for which he won the Francis William Award for Illustration. He travelled widely including visits to America and Russia and resided in both London and Normandy, the latter locality providing inspiration for his 1990 book 'Mr Harte's Holiday'. He and his wife, Caroline Bullock, were deeply involved in the Art Workers Guild with Glynn serving as Guild Master in 1996. He produced detailed, realist work in watercolour, pencil and tempera but was above all excited by the potential of colour
