Bernard Cheese

Born: 1925, UK, England Died: 2013

Printmaker. Studied under Edward Bawden (1903-1989) and Edwin la Dell (1914-1970) at the Royal College of Art, 1947-50. Taught printmaking at St Martin's School of Art, 1951-68, Goldsmith's College, 1968-80, and the Central School of Art & Design, 1980-89. In the 1950s he moved to Great Bardfield in Essex where there was a small nucleus of artists. He now lives and works near Colchester. He was awarded the Artists and Illustrators Prize in 1998 at the Mall Galleries and has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers since 1988. He produces colourful lithographs of life in the landscapes of England, Wales and France. His daughter is the illustrator Chloe Cheese (b.1952)
