Julius Komjati

Born: 1894, Hungary   Died: 1958

Printmaker. Son of an inspector of forests. Studied in Hungary until the outbreak of the First World War serving in the latter until captured in 1916. As a prisoner of war, he was one of the two thousand survivors from the sixteen thousand captives held by the Romanians. He moved to England in 1928 where he studied briefly under Malcolm Osborne (1880-1963) at the Royal College of Art. Whilst in London he made 74 etchings, many published by H.C. Dickins, before his return to Hungary circa 1938. He was a member of both the Society of Painter-Etchers and the Royal Engravers. He etched figure studies and landscapes
