John Furnival

Born: 1933, UK, England, London

Painter, graphic artist and poet. Studied at Wimbledon College of Art, 1951-55, and the Royal College of Art, 1957-60. He then taught Fine Art at Stroud and Cheltenham Colleges of Art until 1966. In 1964 he established the Openings Press with Dom Sylvester Houédard (1924-1992) through which they explored visual and concrete poetry. Furnival became a key figure of the Concrete Poetry movement during the 1960s and early 1970s. He creates word pictures often based around the theme of towers
