Braunton Pottery

   Active: 1912-1971

Established in Devon in 1912, the pottery was owned by a solicitor but built and run by William Fishley Holland until 1921. It was here where the studio potter Michael Cardew was taught to throw by ‘Willie’ in his early career. When the owner went bankrupt, Fishley Holland established a pottery under his own name. Braunton Pottery however continued to run until 1971 and produced similar earthenware pottery based on the designs of the early period under Fishley Holland. Typical of these designs are earthenware bowls, vases, and mugs glazed one colour on the inside and a contrasting shade on the outside.
