Display artist/maker:

David Eeles

Born: 1933, UK   Died: 2015

Ceramicist. He trained at Willesden School of Arts & Crafts in London (1947-1953). Together with his wife Patricia, a graphic artist, they started The Shepherds Well Pottery in Hampstead London. Firing in an electric kiln, he made traditional slipware & tin glazed majolica which was sold in Heals Department store in London as well as smaller shops. In 1961 the family moved to Dorset where they trained many students until the mid 1970s. Today David, Patricia and their sons Benjamin and Simon, run the Eeles Family Pottery in Somerset making stoneware and porcelain pots in a three chamber wood fired climbing kiln. This method leaves a large amount of ash which adds to the glaze quality. They also produce some porcelain coloured with metal oxides and raku pottery fired in a cross-draft wood kiln
