Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good) c.890-950 was King of Deheubarth. In 928 he made a pilgrimage to Rome where he was declared 'King of Wales'. In 930 he called an assembly at Whitland where he established a system of laws in order to unify the regions under his rule

He lowers his head slightly and gazes at the scroll in a thoughtful manner. He has a bushy white beard and wears a green robe. On the desk are numerous manuscripts and a paperweight.
