Number 8 of an edition of 20. On the same piece of paper as PR1404 and PR1406. The Prynu Dol Series are screenprints derived from abstract black-line illustrations for Kate Roberts' novel 'Prynu Dol a Storiau Eraill', first published in 1969 by Gwasg Gee of Denbigh. Each illustration accompanied the start of a chapter. The chapter this print illustrates describes a woman of 92 years who silently slips into the inky void of death. Final respects are paid by many including Mrs Jones the wife of the local undertaker, who steals carnations from the crematorium as a final gift. Wilting, the flowers are thrown away as the minister arrives to ask if the nearly departed wishes a last communion. The Minister fondly remembers her hands; hands that were once so evident for milking the congregation seem to have withered as the flowers
Colour field abstract with irregular shapes. Turquoise, red, yellow and violet shapes floating against a green background. The violet shape is a thin curve extending most of the height of the image. On the upper margin are red and yellow irregular ovals. In the centre is a turquoise shape which reveals the texture of the screen. On the left margin is a cluster of small fragmented shapes. The green background was printed last over yellow and turquoise creating an earthy green. Printed in yellow, green, violet, red, turquoise and crimson?, colours overlap to create additional colours.
