Surreal composition featuring butterflies, a bird, a boat and trees. In the foreground is a check pattern tiled floor which, on the left, is partly overgrown and, on the right, breaks up over a cliff top. By the latter is a rowing boat, with a cross / mast and large oar, all of which is supported in mid-air by a stick. Beyond the floor is a wall? with an arched doorway through which can be seen outer space with a moon and a bald head depicted face-on, three quarter and in profile. Around the doorway are snow-covered winter trees with trunks, branches and twigs. Placed over the trees are two butterflies, each displayed as framed pictures, one of which has broken glass. On the right, in the sky, is a large moth seemingly free of it's frame but unable to fly. A bird (thrush / warbler?) flies low over the tiled floor in the lower centre. Engraved in minute detail with subtle tonal variations created by cross hatching, drypoint, stipple and mezzotint rocker
