Sidney Kyffin GreensladeConsulting Curator 1918–1936Sidney Kyffin Greenslade (1866–1955) was an architect whose designs had won the competition for the National Library of Wales in 1909. While he was still working on the building, in 1918 he was appointed by the Davies sisters to become Consulting Curator to the University Arts and Crafts Museum.Greenslade was born in Exeter and shared his time between Exeter and his rooms in London at 11 Gray's Inn Square. He had sufficient means to collect pottery, prints, fine books and glass, and his expertise enabled him to visit private galleries, society exhibitions, artists' studios and antiques shops to buy crafts for the University with an annual budget of around £250. |
