Bodywork: Figurative Ceramics with a Cardiff Connection
Ceramics Gallery24 June – 16 September 2005
The richness of figurative ceramics currently being produced by artists associated with Cardiff reflects a long-standing interest that has been nourished by teachers and students over many decades. The seven main artists represented in the show have all studied at the ceramics department in Cardiff and still maintain strong links with the city. All use the human form as a core element in their ceramic work.
The exhibition showed recent work by Daniel Allen, Claire Curneen, David Cushway, Hayley Daniels, Michael Flynn, Babette Martini and Natasha Mayo. It was supplemented by earlier work from teachers and ex-students, most of which came from the permanent collection at Aberystwyth.
The exhibition was curated by Jo Dahn and Moira Vincentelli and came out of the on-going academic collaboration between the Ceramic Archive in Aberystwyth, the Ceramic Research Centre in UWIC and Bath Spa University.
